INTERNATIONAL POITÍN DAY 24

INTERNATIONAL POITÍN DAY

Founded in 2015 by The Sun Tavern, 18th November is International Poitín Day, dedicated to celebrating the original Irish moonshine and the rebellious souls who kept it alive during its days of illegality. Year round advocates of the first Uisce beatha, The Sun Tavern boasts the world’s largest legal collection of Poitín, using it in their mixed drinks and selling it by the bottle in their on premise off license and online through The Umbrella Project online shop

This year they will be hosting a takeover from long standing friends, Dublin’s Bar 1661 to  offer an exclusive Bán Poitín, Mad March Hare, Micil & Killowen  Poitín cocktail menu for the evening comprised of three drinks from Bar 1661 and three from The Sun Tavern. They will be  hosting a free Poitín tasting with Bar 1661 owner, Dave Mulligan, and  The Umbrella Project’s Tommy Cummins – where you can learn all about the spirit’s illicit past and where it stands now after its rebirth, while also understanding the nuances of its vast flavour spectrum.

There will be live music with bluesmen, Ash Lambe & The 32-20s after which Dublin’s  finest,  Arveene will be taking to the decks to spin an eclectic set, keeping the vibes suitably raucous right through till midnight.

The tasting will be run on a first come first serve basis on the evening and will start at 6pm while the cocktails will flow all night.

Monday 18th November, 6pm-12am
