In celebration of international Poitín Day 2019 we partnered with Dublin’s Bar 1661 for a good old fashioned bar swap, extra proof. Gillian and Luke from Bar 1661 flew over to London to take over the bar here, while our very own Jamie and Ross did the same at Bar 1661. At 7pm Dave Mulligan lead a Poitín tasting in Dublin, with Tommy Cummins leading the proceedings here at The Sun Tavern. A collaborative cocktail menu featured drinks from both bars including our much loved John Doe and Bar 1661’s famous Belfast Coffee, in partnership with Ban Poitín and Mad March Hare. Meanwhile, bars as far and wide as Tokyo joined in the festivities, dispelling the myth that it’s just bread, banana and barley.
Founded by yours truly, this was the fifth iteration of everyone’s favorite International Day and it surely won’t be the last. Stay tuned for 2020 plans.
