REVIEW: CARNIVAL EAST

REVIEW: CARNIVAL EAST

We’ll be bringing the spirit of the Notting Hill Carnival to the East on the August bank holiday weekend with a reggae infused night at The Sun Tavern.

On Sunday the 27th, our resident band will be playing a live Ska & Reggae set before our DJ takes over with a ‘Reggae’n’Roll’ live set into the early hours (we’ll be open until 1am).

Our sister brewery, Umbrella Brewing, will be launching the new labels for their fiery alcoholic ginger beer on the same night, taking inspiration from The Slicker’s hit Johnny Too Bad, which is head brewer Matt Armitage’s favourite song. The track is a massive part of reggae history, featuring prominently in Perry Henzell’s 1972 film, The Harder They Come, which is credited with “bringing reggae to the world.”

What better night to launch reggae inspired labels? And for ginger beer as well, a classic Jamaican drink. To back that up we’ll also be serving jerk chicken wings for free by nearby Clutch Chicken, who are based just off Columbia Road Flower Market.

Live music, cocktails, ginger beer & chicken, we’re all set for a great night!
